It seems we have finally moved into the Noongar season of Djeran - a time of transition between the heat of Bunuru and the cold of Makuru. There have been signs of change around the school – the red flowers on the gum tree next to the playground are emerging and some biara (banksia) flowers are beginning to show. Mornings are cooler; seasons of change and times of transition are upon us in many aspects of life at our Halls Head campus.

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ environment has certainly changed in the last month with the commencement of the new build. We have an exciting opportunity to watch our campus grow before our eyes and track every change. The cooler weather means Bush investigations have officially begun! We have spoken about our commitment to plant three trees on the campus for every one of the biara trees removed. The logs from many of the trees have also been repurposed for use in our new bush space, where our Kindy children and Eco Committee helped to establish a new yarning circle last term by planting bush tucker plants. It is wonderful to see this care for the environment and it slides beautifully into our focus core values for Term 2, Respect and Responsibility.

We have seen some excellent examples of respect and responsibility over the past weeks. House Captains, Cahill Baker and Bronte Taylor, represented the School beautifully last week, joining with Secondary Prefects to lay wreaths at the Dawesville RSL Dawn Service on ANZAC Day. Our Student Leaders ran a moving ANZAC Service at School on April 26, where we were honoured to host special guests, the Hon. Mr Andrew Hastie MP and Mr Peter Steeger from the Dawesville RSL, both of whom commented on the outstanding respectful behaviour demonstrated by our students during the service.

Spontaneous demonstrations of respect and responsibility around the school include some environmentally conscious Year 4 students who took it upon themselves to use their lunch time to clean up the bush at the edge of the oval this week, and the Year 6 volunteers who assisted Mrs Woods to run Music activities during the campus Learning Journey Open Afternoon.

Thank you to all of our wonderful families and community members for supporting our Learning Journey event. There was a buzz of positivity around the campus and it was delightful to see the students sharing their learning with such joy. I want to take this opportunity to thank our entire staff for their hard work, dedication, energy and enthusiasm, not just for making such events happen, but for their work every day.
